Figueira da Foz

Figueira da Foz received its nickname, Rainha das Praias or Queen of Beaches, for its large and golden sand beach. The largest beach in Portgual, it attracted Figuera da Foz as a major world-class resort during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the sites of the city reflect this. The Grande Casino Peninsular, built in the late 1880s, stands today and continues to offer gambling and shows. Two palaces contain elaborate and elegant artifacts, furnishings, and artwork for visitors to view and admire. Nearby, visitors can also explore the castle Montemor-o-Velho, with its brillant stone walls along the hillside.
